Adams
Jim Adams
grew up in small town Indiana surrounded by farmers,
tradesmen in the
printing industry, coal mining engineers, architects and mechanical
engineers. He
credits them for giving him early experiences in drafting, welding,
printing and simply
making things. Jims earliest influences were the men around
him during his childhood.
My grandpas, dad, uncles, brother, cousins and stepfather
all contributed to the deep
toolbox from which I draw various skills and processes that
make my work come to life.
Having studied
fine art at the University of Indianapolis and illustration at
Purdue
University,
Jim had a career in commercial art and architectural illustration
prior to
his
current pursuits in painting and sculpture. Jim has continued
his art
education most recently at the John C. Campbell Folk School and
Penland
where his focus has been on metal work and developing as a studio
artist.
Jim is a
full-time artist creating drawings, paintings and
sculpture from his studio in Hillsborough, NC. He and his wife
of 23 years are busy raising their two young daughters. Jim
says, Having children at this point in my life has really
helped me develop as an artist. The girls are like lenses
through which to see the world in ways that I would not
without them.
